Our Mission

Music

Jam for Cam was created in the Fall of 2018 to establish a fundraiser to honor Cameron Fearon, a UGA student, who passed away from metastatic melanoma in August of that same year. He began his battle with melanoma in the eighth grade and fought for years until he eventually succumbed to the disease at the age of 19. He always kept quiet about his ailments and never once complained about his treatment or his pain. For these reasons and many more, we decided that Cameron’s name should never be forgotten. Thus, we created Jam for Cam. In short, Jam for Cam is a not-for-profit (501c-3 verified) charity that puts on a music festival every fall to honor Cameron’s life and bring together the Athens and UGA communities. Although the money raised does get put to good use through our donations to charities, this event is driven by our desire to bring people together to celebrate life through music.

This event is more than just raising money for cancer research and scholarships, we are committed to bringing a community together where every individual is held equal and can come together to celebrate life. We cannot thank you enough for taking the time to read this and please consider donating to our cause or purchasing tickets to the event if you wish to join us.

Sincerely,

The Jam for Cam Team

Community

Our flagship event, Jam for Cam, is dedicated to fostering unity within the Athens and UGA communities through a celebration of life, music, and solidarity. Established in memory of Cameron Fearon, a cherished UGA student who courageously battled metastatic melanoma, Jam for Cam transcends its role as a mere fundraiser. It serves as a vibrant gathering that unites individuals from diverse backgrounds to commemorate Cameron's enduring legacy. This annual music festival stands as a poignant testament to the power of community, providing a platform where participants can connect through shared experiences. By nurturing an atmosphere of support, happiness, and collective strength, our goal is to cultivate enduring relationships and fortify a resilient community that stands united in the face of adversity.

Awareness

Jam for Cam is dedicated to advancing awareness of melanoma cancer and educating our community about its risks, prevention strategies, and treatment options. Through our events and outreach initiatives, we are committed to disseminating crucial information about melanoma, stressing the significance of early detection and proactive health practices. We collaborate closely with esteemed partners such as the Melanoma Research Foundation and Georgia Skin Cancer to offer current resources and compassionate support to those impacted by the disease. By shedding light on the realities of melanoma and fostering a culture of health consciousness, our mission is to equip individuals with the knowledge necessary to safeguard themselves and their loved ones. Ultimately, we endeavor to diminish the impact of this debilitating illness within our community.

Every year, a large portion of our donations are sent to the Melanoma Research Foundation and Camp Carolina. The Melanoma Research Foundation is a large advocate and supporter of melanoma awareness and treatment. Camp Carolina was selected as a recipient because Cameron grew up attending their camps where he created some of his best childhood memories. The money given to Camp Carolina is placed in a scholarship fund that helps children who otherwise could not afford it financially to attend Camp Carolina. A third charity is selected year by year with a more personal tie to the UGA and Athens communities.
